This program is by invitation only and focuses on advanced jiu-jitsu fundamentals, match strategy, pacing, takedowns, transitions, and competition-specific conditioning.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers To Commonly Questions

Do I need any prior experience to join?

No! Most adults and kids who join Unified are complete beginners. Our classes are structured, safe, and welcoming to all levels.

What should I wear to Jiu-Jitsu classes?

For your first class, just wear comfortable athletic clothing — something like shorts, leggings, or sweatpants and a fitted T-shirt or dry-fit top. Avoid anything with zippers, buttons, or pockets that can snag fingers or toes.

If you’re trying a Gi class, we have loaner gis available or you can borrow one in your size.
If you’re attending a No-Gi class, wear athletic shorts (no pockets if possible) and a rashguard or fitted shirt.

Once you join the program, Meyers (our gear assistant) can help you pick the right Unified gi, rashguard, and belt from our shop.

How often should I attend classes to

progress?

Most students train 2–3 days per week for the best progress. Beginners can start with 1–2 days and increase as they feel comfortable.

Is Jiu-Jitsu suitable for all ages?

Yes! Jiu-Jitsu is one of the most adaptable martial arts in the world and can be safely practiced by kids, teens, adults, and even seniors. At Unified, we offer age-specific classes designed to meet students exactly where they are developmentally. Our program ranges from Little Kids (ages 4–7) to Big Kids (8–14), all the way through adult beginners, hobbyists, and competitors.

Because Jiu-Jitsu focuses on technique, leverage, and body awareness rather than strength or aggression, it’s safe, scalable, and effective for every age and fitness level.

Do you offer competitions or belt promotions?

Yes! Unified offers both.

We host in-house tournaments, participate in local and regional competitions, and run special programs like Order 66 for students who want to compete at a higher level. Competition is always optional, but highly encouraged for students who want to test their skills and build confidence.

We also hold belt promotions and stripe days throughout the year. Promotions are earned through consistent attendance, skill development, effort, attitude, and coach evaluation — never purchased.

Our belt system follows traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu standards so students progress safely and with pride.

Are there any fitness requirements for

Jiu-Jitsu training?

No — there are no fitness requirements to start Jiu-Jitsu. Jiu-Jitsu is built for real people of all ages, body types, and fitness levels. You don’t need to be strong, flexible, or in great shape to begin.

Training itself helps you build strength, mobility, endurance, and confidence over time. Our coaches will guide you at your own pace, and all techniques can be scaled for beginners.

Whether you’re new to exercise, returning after a break, or already active, Jiu-Jitsu meets you where you are — and helps you rise.
